Looking for creative ways to get to your next event. May we suggest a detour down some of the coolest backroads in the Hill Country. This weeks journey takes you a little bit north west of Fredericksburg via 87 and the scenic byway 648. From Fredericksburg you will travel about 15 minutes until you hit Old Mason Road. This gets you off the bigger highway. Wind past old and new farms until you get back on to 87 to continue north. At 648 you will turn left and get your camera ready.
Highway 648 is classified as a G3 on the Butler Map promising you some sweeping vistas and subtle rollercoaster rides. During the Spring, the landscape is dotted with colorful wildflowers. During the Summer you are promised beautiful blue skies and deep hues from the landscape. As the road ends at 783, you will turn right and detour over to Langes Mill Road.
Langes Mill was establish in the mid 1800’s as a Burr Mill and has managed to survive the weather. The
Burr Mill would have been an integral part of the community. Food would have been processed at this mill, such as grain. At first site, the color of the stones catch your eye and I found myself just wanting snapshots for future use. Walk down to the river below and the view back up to the mill is just as amazing. If you continue on Langes Mill Road you will come back to 648. From there, the next stage of your journey is up to you. May we suggest an adventure in Fredericksburg?
